STATEN ISLAND BUSINESS GURUS WRITE BOOK ON ‘SUCCESS’
Twenty-one top Staten Island businessmen and women have written a book detailing what it takes to reach the top.
“From Humble Beginnings…Success” contains a variety of stories in which the authors volunteer their varied thoughts on how to achieve business and personal success. Richard Nicotra, owner of the Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites and Corporate Commons, Bloomfield, wrote the Foreword. Wagner College President Richard Guarasci wrote a cover endorsement.
The 150-page book is thought to be the first of its kind from the Island’s business community. It is published by Showtime Books. To recognize the 21 business people/authors, and to mark the publication date, Showtime Books will host a special “coming out” reception Monday, Dec. 9, 5:45 p.m, at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The authors are attorney Anthony Wierzbowski of Fiore & Wierzbowski, P.C., Dongan Hills; Sonia Golden, Golden Key Interiors, New Springville; Lou Rizzo, Master Realtors, Oakwood; Young Kim, Princess Nails and Spa, New Springville; Scott Fichera, Fichera Electric, Concord; Joe Sollitto, AAMCO Transmissions, Concord; Ronald P. Cutrone, Foundation Financial Advisors, Port Richmond; Russell Cascardo, Spencer’s Auto Sales, Tottenville; Rena Cella, Merry Mutts Pet Care, Rossville; Richard Damico, Corporate Benefit and Design Services, Grasmere; and Andrew Pappas, the law firm Andrew Pappas, P.C., New Dorp.
Also, Jon Adamo, Phase One Construction, Castleton Corners; Ken Schneider, P.A.C. Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, Port Richmond; Vanessa Bellucci, Care Mates, Eltingville; Norman N. Schwartz, Schwartz Insurance Agency, Great Kills; Vik Cooper, Vik’s Fine Jewelry, New Springville; Thomas King, Advance Lock & Key, Grant City; Dovid Winiarz, Fidelity Merchant Service, Meiers Corners; Jessica Crespo, Jessica Crespo Photography, Grymes Hill; Xiomara Ayala, Investors Bank, West Brighton; and Bob Williams, Showtime Publications, Annadale.

“We as professionals have years of valuable business experience, so we decided to share our experience by writing a book,” says Williams, an author and the book editor. “We hope our experience will help others become successful.”
According to Williams, the group hatched its book idea in July when they happened to be discussing professional backgrounds. While many of the authors hold membership in various Island business groups and organizations, each is a member of Business Guild 2 of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce. As such, they meet weekly to network and to help each other grow their business.
Each of the 21 authors, some of whom are immigrants, wrote a chapter, which helped fast-track book production into a record four-month period. Sonia Golden, for instance, tells of watching her parents fight the Nazis in the woods of Poland; Thomas King writes about lack of jobs in Ireland; and Young Kim recalls poverty as a child in South Korea. They and the others cite determination, education and hard work as steps leading to success.
“From Humble Beginnings…Success” will be available from all on-line publishers, including Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com., and at most book stores. Retail price is $14.95.
